This year we are trying something different for the AVM Annual Event: an Unconference!

What is an unconference?

It is a type of conference created “by the people, for the people.” We are inviting everyone to join our unconference for the purpose of creating a conversation around a central theme. This year, the theme is "communications, engagement, and compliance." We want to explore new ways to connect with volunteers through social media, keep volunteers engaged, and reduce the risk and improve the compliance of our work with volunteers.

The Agenda is Driven by the Participants

Participants create the agenda and schedule at the start of the day (8:30 am). Participants should bring ideas for sessions they want to talk about or projects they want to share or to get feedback from the community. We will then populate the agenda with sessions and 'birds-of-a-feather' discussion areas.

“The Law of Two Feet”

Your own movement guarantees that there are no wasted moments: “If you are not getting or giving value where you are, use your two feet to go somewhere else.” Unlike a typical conference, no one feels obligated to remain in any one location for a topic that holds no
interest for them.

How do I participate in an Unconference?

The best way for you to participate in an unconference is to prepare something to share. Bring your knowledge, experience, and expertise—at any level. Propose the topics you would like to discuss with others. If you have a topic you would like to share, please click here to propose it using Google Moderator. We'll collect topic ideas and use them to drive the agenda on the day of the event.
